Frequently asked questions about aftercare
If your question wasn't answered in this section please don't be afraid to shoot me a message with your after care questions. Better safe than sorry!
How do I take off second skin?
Run your tattoo over Luke warm water, and pull your second skin from a corner closest to you, towards your body, like a command strip. Don't pull your second skin away from your body/tattoo. That can lead to pulling out ink.
What should I do after I take off my second skin?
I provide you a packet of soap and lotion to take home for your fresh tattoo. After 1-2 days you take your second skin off. Once your second skin is off gently clean your tattoo with the soap, pat dry with a clean paper towel or towel, once dry moisturize!
How often should I clean/moisturize my tattoo?
For the first few days of your tattoo you should clean with unscented soap and water 1-3 times a day depending on how dirty it gets. Moisturize 3 times daily with a light amount of artist recommended lotion. The older your tattoo gets the less you will have to wash it but keep moisturizing it 3 times daily for 2 weeks
Are there specific products I should use or avoid?
I recommend using non-scented lotions like Lubriderm or Hustle Butter. Absolutely never use petroleum products such as Vaseline or Aquaphor, as they can hinder healing.
What are your best tips for long-term tattoo vibrancy?
Avoid direct sun exposure as UV rays can age tattoos quickly. Always apply sunscreen when outdoors, and keep your tattoo moisturized to maintain its vibrancy for years to come.
What should I do immediately after getting a tattoo?
Leave the tattoo alone and keep the second skin on for 1-2 days. This protective layer is crucial for the initial healing phase.
How long should I expect my tattoo to heal and what dose it look like?
The healing process typically takes 2-4 weeks. During this time, the tattoo will scab and be itchy. Eventually, a shiny layer of skin will form to protect it. All of these are normal signs of healing. The older you are the longer your tattoo will take to heal. Everyone's body is different, you might heal differently than others and everyone has a unique experience with healing. Learn your body and listen to it.
What do I avoid after my tattoo?
For the first 2 weeks do not soak the tattoo in any body of waters. Showers are recommended. Do not expose to direct sunlight. Do not use scented lotions or perfumes. Your tattoo is an open wound and you should treat it that way.
When should I get worried about my healing tattoo?
When your tattoo is bright red around the ink and peeling from the sides. This will be very painful and is no normal for the tattooing process. When your tattoo has an excessive amount of scabbing that rises up from the skin that is due to over working and you should contact your artist. If your artist thinks you have an infection seeing a doctor is recommended for antibiotics.
When can I come back for my second session?
2-4 weeks after your tattoo was initially done is when we are able to go back to the tattoo. You want to give it enough time to fully heal. It is unwise and not good for your tattoo and skin if you tattoo over fresh scar tissue.
